Who Am I?
I’m Luke, an ultra runner, endurance coach, and founder of Luke Ultra.
My journey into ultra running started after years in the military, where I learned how to train and perform in unpredictable environments, both physically and mentally demanding. That experience built the foundation for the discipline, structure, and mindset I now bring into my coaching.
Since then, I’ve taken those lessons into the world of ultra running, pushing my own limits across 100-mile races, 50-milers, and backyard ultras, and helping other runners do the same.
Today, my focus is on guiding busy athletes to reach their full potential not through endless miles, but through smart, structured, and sustainable training built around their lifestyle.
My credentials
My coaching is built on a combination of real-world ultra running experience and science-backed education.
Over the past few years, I’ve completed multiple 100-mile races, most recently finishing 5th at the Yr Wyddfa 100 Miler — along with several 50-milers, 50Ks, and a number of Backyard Ultras. Those experiences have taught me what it truly takes to push through the physical and mental limits of endurance racing.
Alongside my racing background, I’m a fully certified coach and nutrition professional:
• UESCA Certified Ultra Running Coach
• Endurance Sports Nutrition Coach
• Certified Level 3 Nutritionist
• TrainingPeaks Level 1 Accredited Coach
This blend of practical experience and evidence-based knowledge allows me to design training and nutrition strategies that are both effective in theory and proven in practice.
My coaching philosophy
My coaching is built around the 3 Pillar Blueprint, a complete approach that covers the three core foundations of ultra running: aerobic conditioning, nutrition, and mental resilience.
I believe success in ultras doesn’t come from chasing higher mileage or following a copy-and-paste plan, it comes from balance, structure, and understanding how each pillar works together to build long-term performance.
Coming from a military background has shaped my approach to coaching, helping runners make real progress with the time they have, not the time they wish they had.
Every athlete I work with receives a personalised and adaptable plan that fits their lifestyle, builds consistency, and strengthens their physical and mental foundation for ultra success.

I made the leap because I wanted to take the discipline I learned in the military and apply it to my true passion: ultra running. The military shapes you to be durable and resilient. Traits that are the 'secret sauce' for endurance athletes. By leaving the constraints of service behind, I can now focus entirely on bringing that beneficial structure to my clients. Seeing someone else succeed and knowing I played a part in their journey gives me more satisfaction than any solo race ever could. I’m here to help you build that same bulletproof mindset.

My favourite part has to be the community and the incredible people you meet along the way. There’s something special about the bond formed on the trails; hearing why someone has chosen to push their limits brings a huge amount of perspective and inspiration to my own running. It reminds me that every runner has a unique story, and being a small part of that journey is what makes this sport so rewarding.

The toughest race i’ve done so far would have to be the Yr Wydda 100 Mile race. Over 6,000m of elevation and decent, multiple terrain types with no race markings made it significantly challenging. This taught me that you should never underestimate any race you enter, always be ready to adapt to your environment because you will never be prepped for all scenarios.
